The competition design for the National Bank of Slovakia's deposit office represents a modern and environmentally responsible vision of the institution with an emphasis on the symbiosis of architecture and the natural environment of the Kremnica Hills. The harmonious integration of the unique natural and cultural values of the region is the basic principle of the design.
The central motif of the design is the concept of "a landscape bridge" which creates natural continuity by connecting the relief of the surrounding terrain and public space. The strict geometric plateau, composed of a system of three squares, enhances the monumentality of the surrounding nature. The absence of prominent volumes at the main entrance supports the impression of openness and respect for the environment.
The plateau serves as a connecting element between the city and nature. The strategic location of key spaces, such as the reception and conference rooms, allows for panoramic views of the historic centre of Kremnica and its iconic castle. The underground parts of the building include security facilities and crisis areas, while the working and residential zones are situated around green atriums that naturally regulate lighting and the indoor climate.
The architectural expression and materiality draw inspiration from the local Kremnica quartz. Soft white shades, complemented by a subtle play of gloss and matt, shape the visual appearance of the facade, which reflects the natural and historical heritage of the region and becomes its aesthetic symbol.
The project emphasizes ecological sustainability. Three integrated winter gardens ensure natural ventilation and optimize the use of solar energy. Photovoltaic panels and low-temperature heating support energy efficiency and meet the criteria of the passive standard.
The design of the NBS backup office in Kremnica responds sensitively to the context of the landscape and cultural heritage. This project presents a combination of modern architecture with the principles of sustainability, thereby creating the conditions for the harmony among nature, people and the institution.
